It’s been a rough couple of weeks, between writer’s block and coming down with whatever sinus bug was going around at work. But now, with my respiratory system clearing at last, it’s time to get back to work. And I’m eager to do so.

As of tonight, I’ve at last resumed work on the work-in-progress. I didn’t write much, but after almost two weeks with virtually zero output, anything is a win, and I’m taking it as such.
Overall, I have a pretty good idea of where I’m heading with this chapter; after all, the process of building a colony is fairly straightforward. As such, I suppose the greatest challenge is to find a way forward that doesn’t feel too…canned. I worry that moving into a portion of the story that’s carefully regimented might make it too easy to fall into a monotonous sequence of “and then this happened, and then this happened”.
Needless to say, character development will be paramount. I already have a few ideas of where I want to take things, which should help matters. The important thing is that I’m back to work. I’ve missed this, and hopefully things will get easier in the days ahead. – MK
So sorry you’ve been sick.

Have you ever read Gene Wolfe? All his faults notwithstanding, he’s pretty interesting sometimes in using surprise.

I’ll have to look up some of his work. Thank you.
