Hello again, dreamers.  I have a busy week ahead of me, so I’ll get right to it.  Here’s what I’ll be working on this week:

The Pioneer

At long last, the hour approaches: this week, I will be resuming work on my treasured work-in-progress.

As I believe I’ve mentioned, this year I will be using my work-in-progress for NaNoWriMo.  I’ll be making the official announcement on Wednesday, as part of my customary WIP Wednesday post.  As such, in addition to everything else I’ll be working on over the coming days I’ll be doing a pass through The Pioneer, reacquainting myself with the story and doing some light revision (or heavy revision, depending on how it goes).

This will be my third year participating in NaNoWriMo, and my first two years met with…erm…limited success.  Year one, I chose to focus on my then-work-in-progress, Pathfinder.  In retrospect, my experience that year was the beginning of a slow, years-long realization that I was not going to write Pathfinder (not yet, at any rate).  Last year, as I was still vacillating between Pathfinder and the story that would become The Pioneer, I chose to use a previously-undeveloped story, Breaker.  After my first week ended in frustration and dismal word count, I ended up abandoning NaNoWriMo 2017 altogether to complete my final edits of Wide Horizon.

Hopefully, this year will be different.  I’m using a story I’ve been tearing through thus far, one I really enjoy and believe in.  I know I can write this novel, because after all, I’ve been writing it.  I will, of course, be putting up weekly status updates (in addition to my WIP Wednesday posts), so my readers can follow along on what I hope will be a productive journey through November.

Short Fiction

NaNoWriMo officially begins on November 1: Thursday.  As such, I still have a few more days of focusing on my short fiction, and I must say I’m looking forward to it, given how things have gone so far.

The past week has been a rewarding experience.  For the first time in years, I’ve been plugging away at numerous short fiction projects.  I completed one story so far tonight, and I’ve ever intention of continuing to write so I may yet knock another out before the end of the day.

I do still intend to post a short story on Wednesday.  Exactly what that story will be depends on just how many I manage to complete (and revise) by then.  So stay tuned.

 

I have a lot to do this week, but I feel good about how things are going right now.  Keep watching as NaNoWriMo begins, and as always, dare to dream. – MK
