Hello, dreamers. It’s been another busy week, but I feel good about what I’ve accomplished. I’m finally back at it, writing again, and it feels good. But I still have a busy month ahead of me. It’s hard to believe we’ve reached the end of the first full week of August, but thankfully I’m moving along well on the road to Pitch Wars 2019.

Moving swiftly onward, here’s what I was up to this week:

The Pioneers

I finally did it: this week I converted The Pioneers to manuscript format. That’s it. Step one complete.

Of course it doesn’t end there. There’s more to do, but this represents a significant step forward. From this point onward, any modifications will be made solely on the manuscript file (though I anticipate few major changes).

Thus, in the coming week I’ll be starting my query letter and synopsis. Several weeks should (hopefully) be long enough to knock those out, though we shall see. Given my experience last year, I’d say the sooner I get those vital documents done the better.

Rise of the Pioneers

At last, work has begun on the sequel to The Pioneers, and I’m pleasantly surprised at how well it’s gone so far.

I’ve only written a single page at this point, but one page is a page more than I’ve ever written in a sequel. Still, I have a great deal more to figure out. I have notes to take and expand, designs to flesh out. But I needed to start writing. I knew that much. And I’m glad I did.

I think the biggest surprise thus far is how well the entire story is coming together. The more I write, the more I plan, the more everything seems to be clicking into place. I can hear the characters, see the scenes. I have a good feeling about this. I just hope that holds out.

Webpage Upgrades

Last but not least, my more observant readers will note some changes to this site over the past few days.

The renaming and other changes are part of an overall effort to give my page a face-lift, as it were. With Pitch Wars approaching, I’m sure this page will be attracting a great deal of scrutiny. Already site traffic has increased, and I’ve been feeling a bit self-conscious. As such, I’m changing things around, streamlining my site and working to provide a smoother, more inviting experience.

I have also begun an effort to edit a number of what I consider my better short stories of the past few years. Once these are complete, I intend to re-post at least a few of these, providing new visitors to the site with a better example of my current work as a writer.

Big things lie ahead. I can’t wait to see where Rise of the Pioneers takes me, and I am eagerly awaiting the start of Pitch Wars. For now, keep reading, keep questioning, and as always, dare to dream. – MK
