Writing Tomorrow: An Introduction

Hello, dreamers. And welcome back.

After several years lacking direction, I am proud to announce the completion of a top-to-bottom revamp of my website. Welcome to “Writing Tomorrow”. A new website with a new focus, a new mission, and a new direction for myself and my platform.

What’s New

Writers of science fiction are called upon to write tomorrow. We seek to envision the future by extrapolating from the technology and culture of today. Will the problems of today be solved in time? Will they be allowed instead to metastasize, producing a dystopian future that will become a new generation’s reality? These are the questions we seek to answer in our writing.

Writing Tomorrow focuses on not only my writing, but on the writing of science fiction: how current science and technology can be incorporated into worldbuilding and inform plot development. Content will now be separated: my short fiction will be found on a designated page, while all posts will be available on my existing Blog page.

From this point forward, I am committed to providing more new content, including flash fiction each week. New blog content will consist primarily of analysis of emerging scientific research from a science fiction perspective: a look at how new advances can be used by science fiction writers to improve their craft. I will also be posting periodic reviews of new science fiction films and series on various streaming services, focusing on their merits as science fiction and the underlying science behind them.

This new content will be posted in addition to most of my existing regular posts, including my Writer’s Desk and WIP Wednesday, and monthly short fiction.

What’s Coming

In the coming month, I will be launching a mailing list, which will allow frequent readers to access additional content. Joining the mailing list will also grant readers a sneak peek at upcoming content on the site, as well as greater access to me personally.

Also in the coming month, I will be self-publishing two works of science fiction. The first will be Unrealized Realities: a collection of short stories gleaned from my years writing short fiction on this site. Later, I will be publishing Wide Horizon: my first novel. Set in a distant, dystopian future, the story follows starship captain Braylen Roads, as he and his companions seek to restore human civilization after an cataclysmic interstellar war.

There’s so much more to come. In the past few weeks I have been hard at work. The act of totally redesigning my website while editing short fiction and preparing for self-pub, as well as working toward querying for The Pioneers, has been taxing, mentally and emotionally. But I’ve had a lot of help, and I feel better about my direction in writing than I have in a long time.

I can’t wait to show you all I have in store. It’s going to be an exciting fall, and I’m happy to have my dreamers here with me on this journey. Until next time, as always, dare to dream. – MK
