Hello, dreamers.
Last week was a whirlwind. I finished a long-overdue edit of Wide Horizon, finished work on a new edition of Unrealized Realities, and somehow found time to shoehorn in work on my WIP and write a flash fiction piece that garnered a lot of attention. But I’m not slowing down. Not for a second.
This week I’ll be focusing again on my work-in-progress, while completing final revisions of Pioneers in preparation for editing. All the while, I’ll be devoting free time to self-pub projects, current and new. And there will be another flash fiction post on Friday.
There’s a lot going on, so let’s get to it:
Mailing List and Newsletter
At long last, in February I will be launching my monthly newsletter. Starting next month, I will be releasing my newsletter on the first Monday of each month to all subscribers on my mailing list. The newsletter will be a more personal look into my writing, featuring exclusive content.

Each newsletter will contain four exclusive features:
From the Writer’s Desk
Want to know more about what I’m up to than what you find each week on Writer’s Desk? Well, this feature will go in-depth into my current projects, and my plans for the month, or months, ahead. Novel projects, new short fiction, you’ll find it all here.
Free Preview
Each month, I’ll be including a free preview of one of my books available for purchase. This month, subscribers will get a free chapter of my novel, Wide Horizon, launching on iTunes, Google Play, Rakuten Kobo, and Amazon Kindle in March.
Of Interest
In this section, I’ll be looking at features of science fiction writing, including my own personal experience. Learn more about worldbuilding, character development, and the science behind science fiction.
Personal Note
So you read my site regularly, and you know a lot about my writing. Want to know more about me, personally? Check out this section to learn more about the man behind all the Martians and lasers.
In addition to these features, you’ll get sneak peeks at upcoming content on this site. And it’s all free for subscribers on my mailing list! Not on my mailing list yet? Then click here to subscribe, and receive a free preview of Wide Horizon just for signing up!
Aquarius 1
After the flurry of work on my self-published works this past week, at last I’ve returned to my work-in-progress, Aquarius 1. As I mentioned in my WIP Wednesday post last week, I’m currently re-working several of the early chapters in the novel, adding crucial background and character development. As such, most of my work early in the week will likely involve rewriting, rather than actual writing. But I’ve already made good progress, and expect to be back at it later this week.
My goal for this week is to complete the rewrite of the earlier chapters, then finish Phase 2. That will trigger my customary revision and research break, before I resume writing in mid-February. I still feel great about this story, and feel better about it by the day. Watch for this week’s WIP Wednesday post for more details.
Pioneers
As of today, I’ve finally begun my final revision pass of Pioneers. My primary goal on this pass is simple: adjust continuity amid Aquarius 1, and make minor adjustments to technology and jargon. I also plan to make some long-overdue adjustments to the ending, motivated in part by my work on Aquarius 1.
Once that’s done, I’ll be setting myself to work on querying. I’ll be writing a new query letter, revising my synopses, and refining my list of target agents. After that, hopefully before the end of the month, I’ll be sending out a round of queries. Then, the waiting begins.
Website Changes and New Content
Finally, work continues on a minor revamp of my site. Readers will notice a renovated Latest Works section, as well as a minor facelift to my homepage. This week, I’ll be releasing my latest Science in Fiction post: “The Three-Body Problem”, in which I discuss binary and trinary star systems in science fiction, and what science tells us such planetary systems could actually look like. Next week, I’ll be debuting a new monthly feature: “The Cutting Room Floor”, in which I’ll discuss my experiences with editing my work. This will be effectively a re-launch of my once-popular “On Editing” posts, and will give readers a privileged look into my creative process.
Lastly, new content is coming. In addition to continuing my weekly Flash Fiction posts, which have proven popular, this weekend I plan to resume work on short fiction. More fiction content is coming, dreamers. For now, keep reading, and dare to dream. – MK
