Hello, dreamers. Last week was a wild week: I finished work (maybe) on MERIT 19, began working on a full rewrite of Endurance, and somehow found time to grouse about the latest season of Halo. I’ve got a lot going on: book releases are coming, querying is set to begin for Pioneers, and all the while I’m looking ahead to my next novel project. There’s a lot to do, so here’s what I’ll be up to this week:
Pioneers
This week marks what I’m calling the “soft opening” for querying my novel Pioneers. This Wednesday, I’ll be participating in the Insecure Writer’s Group pitch event on Twitter. During the day, I’ll be tweeting my heart out, hoping to convince literary agents that Pioneers is every bit as good as my beta readers say it is.
If you’re on Twitter, by all means drop by to cheer me on. Just remember: if you want to support my efforts, comment or retweet. Hitting “like” is supposed to be reserved solely for agents. Wish me luck, dreamers.
In the (likely) event I don’t draw any interest during the event, I’ll resume preparations for querying. To that end, I’ve recently found an incredibly helpful podcast. Thanks to a new writer friend, I’ve been listening to “The Shit No One Tells You About Writing“. The podcast is excellent, in no small part because of the opening segment “Books with Hooks”. In it, a pair of literary agents review queries from aspiring authors, and provide helpful feedback. I’ve found it very enlightening, to the point where I’ve found myself taking notes while listening.
I’d like to give a shoutout to my wonderful new friend, O.M. Faye, for clueing me in to this amazing resource. If you’re a writer reading this, you should check out the podcast. You’ll be glad you did.
Upcoming Releases
If you read this week’s “Self-Pub Sunday”, you’ll know that there’s a new novella coming: The Envoy will be available for preorder on April 1! If you haven’t already, check out the post, or the novella’s page here to learn more.
The Envoy joins my growing list of upcoming novella releases, which of course includes the stories comprising Turn of the Century. And my actual writing this week will be largely devoted to those works. My goal is to have both The Envoy and Endurance (book one of Turn of the Century) finished, edited, and prepared for pre-order by the end of this week. And dreamers, I am going to keep to that. Rest assured, by the time pre-release opens for those to novellas, you’ll have access to a tantalizing preview of what’s to come.
Once those two books are uploaded for publishing, it’ll be on to the next ones. I have two more books to edit and expand, and another to write. And I’m hoping to get all of that done by the end of May. And as it is, May is gonna be a busy month.
Upcoming Content
So first off, next month in “Sci-Fi Reviewed”, I’ll be covering Star Trek: Discovery on the day its final season premieres. But after that, I’m going to be doing something a little different…
During the month of May, I’ll be replacing “Sci-Fi Reviewed” with “Star Wars Reviewed”. I’ll be posting all month, twice a week, giving my reviews on all the Star Wars films and the animated series, leading up to a review of The Acolyte in June. It’s gonna be a lot of work, but it’ll be a labor of love.
With that in mind, here’s what to watch for this week:
Tuesday 3/26: “Teaser Tuesday”
Enjoy your final peek at Wide Horizon in this week’s “Teaser Tuesday”. Braylen Roads finds himself fighting for his life as the Protectorate sneaks their genetically-engineered assassins aboard his ship.
Wednesday 3/27: “WIP Wednesday”
As I shift to a new novella, learn more about how Todd Helfrich became Dauna Adkins, and how my new MC changed the story through her distinct voice and personality.
Thursday 3/28: “A to B”
Space is big, which means traveling anywhere in space takes a while. In this month’s “Science in Fiction”, learn more about the ways humans might survive their trip to distant stars, and what that means for the modern sci-fi writer.
Friday 3/29: “Flash Fiction Friday: Eternity in an Instant“
An astronaut falling into a black hole realizes crossing the event horizon isn’t the end…at least not right away.
Sunday 3/31: “Self-Pub Sunday”
Here it comes: Endurance is about to hit pre-order! Learn more about book one of Turn of the Century, and pre-order your copy of the first Dotiverse story!
It’s gonna be another busy week here on Writing Tomorrow. So keep reading, and as always, dare to dream. – MK
