Hello again, dreamers.
Last week was a busy week for me. Three posts in three days, four in five. A new short story. The resumption of several of my weekly features. It’s good to be back.
But while it’s good to be back, as I often say the work of an aspiring writer is never done. This week I have taken a brief hiatus from my posting to focus on writing in earnest. Next week I will be back at it. Here’s what’s coming:

Next week I will be resuming my weekly schedule of posts. Here’s what to look for:
2/7: Coming Home: Review of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds
I love Star Trek. I’ve been a huge Trekkie since I was a child, growing up with The Next Generation and Deep Space Nine. Then, when Enterprise was cancelled, Star Trek went silent for a long time. Now it’s back, with multiple shows running concurrently on Paramount+. Science Fiction storytelling has changed a lot since the early 2000s. As such, the format of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds now feels innovative: an episodic approach to storytelling with quasi-serialized character development.
Perhaps the greatest challenge Trek now faces is not the nature of sci-fi today but rather its own dense canon. With so much of the Star Trek universe’s rich history firmly established on-screen, how do writers of the new series tell new stories without tripping over their predecessors’ feet? In next week’s first installment of Sci-Fi Reviewed, I take a look at how the writers and designers of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds succeed in telling fresh, new stories that are both believable to modern sci-fi fans and true to the original feel of the franchise.
2/8: WIP Wednesday
With the querying process underway for Pioneers, I now find myself officially between novel projects. So, now what? Check out this week’s #WIPWednesday post for a look into the overarching Pioneers universe, as I ponder where to go next with what will be a long series of novels that will likely constitute my life’s work. There’s lots to come. See it here first.
2/9: Science In Fiction: The Anatomy of an Earth
Next week, my ongoing series of posts continues as I look at how to build a believable alien planet. Currently, our planet is the only one we know to harbor life. But it’s more than that: current scientific theory suggests it’s highly unlikely, perhaps nearly impossible, for complex life to develop on a planet very different from our own. So, what makes our planet so conducive to life as we know it? Check out this week’s Science In Fiction as I break down the anatomy of an Earth-like planet, and look at what an inhabited alien planet could look like.
2/10: Flash Fiction
Watch for my next weekly flash fiction next Friday.
It’s going to be another great week of science fiction here on Writing Tomorrow. So keep reading, and as always, dare to dream. – MK
